As one of the nation’s most recognizable and respected academicians, YM Royal Professor Ungku A. Aziz’s illustrious and long-enduring career has been an exemplification of great leadership, bristling with significant contributions towards the education industry.

In 1961, he was University of Malaya’s sole recipient of a first-class honors degree in Economics. He later completed a doctorate in Economics (Hakase) at Waseda University, Tokyo.

While serving University of Malaya in various capacities including the Dean of Economics and Administration Faculty, he rose to prominence when he was appointed the Vice Chancellor of the country’s most revered and highly esteemed university, a post he diligently served for almost 20 years. During his tenure, the university was consistently ranked as one of the top universities in the world.

On the international scene, he has rendered expert services on several United Nations bodies in countries such as Bangkok, Geneva, Cyprus, Ceylon, Indonesia and India. In recognition of his commitment and contributions, he has been honored doctorates from Warwick, Buckingham, Bath, Pittsburgh, Chulangkorn, Philippines, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and Universiti Utara Malaysia universities.

He has also been bestowed with the “Grand Cordon of the Order of the Sacred Treasure First Class” by the Emperor of Japan.

In 1997, Pak Ungku was awarded “Tokoh Maal Hijrah” by Duli Yang Maha Mulia Seri Paduka Yang Di-Pertuan Agong (His Royal Highness, The King).

Today, he remains as the sole Royal Professor in the country and currently, he is the Chairman and Chancellor of Cosmopoint/Kuala Lumpur Metropolitan University College (KLMU). At the university college, Pak Ungku has been the driving force in ensuring that the institution continues to improve in all facets of its academic offerings and operations, that it would realize all of its corporate mission and vision in time to come.
